A motorcycle rider initially missed this right curve and turned too late.

Several reflective pylons were missing from the "island" straight ahead and the streetlight over the island was not functioning at the time. 

​

The driver who crashed, was on a motorcycle with one headlight of unknown aim. At distances further from the curve than this point, the turn is much less obvious.

​

In addition to the camera and flash techniques employed, a light meter was used to measure the light striking the surface from adjacent light sources.
